Maya Ramirez-Schwarz (Margarita Ramirez Padilla) was born in Aguascalientes Mexico. Raised in a poor neighborhood in a large family of six brothers and two sisters, resources were scarce and creativity was a way of coping with the hardships of life.
As a young woman she became part of the Teatristas de Aguascalientes, where she performed in many plays for several years. She also dance flamenco and was part of many art programs at the Casa de la Cultura in the city.
She immigrated to the United States and has lived in San Diego, California for 24 years, where she and her husband have raised their three children.
Maya has worked in the Latino community in San Diego in a variety of health related jobs for over 12 years, always focusing on the wellness of families and children, hoping to educate them on behaviors that led to healthy lifestyles, as well how to be activists for greater responsibility in how to bring nutritious and more natural foods to their tables.
Her desire to educate others has also transferred onto the canvas, which clearly shows the passage of responsibility for the care of the earth, which give us everything, and upon which our lives depend, to all human beings.
